RI mooring suggestions?

Does anyone have any leads on moorings in RI? There was so much good advice for Jeff in Maine recently.

Pretty much anywhere in RI would do. It seems the price goes up the further south you go, and I'm willing to be further north for a lower price.

It would also be great to be somewhere with sailing programs for our daughters who are 11 and 12.

The boat is 47', draws 6', and the mast is 65'.

I've been away from RI for almost six years, but when I was in Providence, there were available morrings at both Rhode Island Yacht Club and Edgewood Yacht Club. Both of those are in Cranston. RIYC didn't have any youth sailing progams, but I believe Edgewood did. The 6 foot draft might be an issue in moorings, but there were plans for dredging those mooring fields the year after I left, so that should have been taken care of by now.

Also, the Community Boating Center at India Point Park in Providence has (or at least had) active youth sailing sailing programs.

Contact Eric at Pleasant Street Wharf, Wickford, Rhode Island. Lower end of Narragansett Bay 4012942791. It's a family owned place, the have very limited docking, but run a good deal of the moorings in the N. Kingstown/Wickford harbor. They have a few, and are promised more mooring outside of the harbor near N. Kingstown Beach.

Eric's a great resource even if he doesn't have moorings.

Looks like there are a few posted on the Providence CraigsList, but I don't know if they can handle of boat of that size. I think the boat yard we are in is full (Dutch Harbor Boat Yard), but it might be worth asking. Conanicut Marina always seems to have a few available, but they are a little pricey imo.

Clark Boat Yard has an ad for moorings for 2008 listed on Craigslist.

We have friends who are happy with their mooring at Pirate's Cove in the Tiverton Yacht Basin. There is a bit of a current there but you have easy access to the Sakonnet as well as heading the other direction through Mount Hope Bay.

I've lurked for some time, but didn't really have anything to add until lately! I'm actually a recently-displaced Texan and we just completed our first year sailing up here. We LOVE the Naragansett area! We just wish it was warmer! :grin:

Just to keep this somewhat on topic, we closed on Second Wind almost exactly a year ago and had to scramble to find a mooring. They *are* out there, you just have to keep looking. Don't be afraid to ask the marinas who are full if they have advice on where to look - we didn't even know about Dutch Harbor until one of the Brewer marinas referred us.

WinterRiver, I do believe there is availability at Conanicut Marina; at least there was last season.

Our boat received a lot of damage in the Noel storm and if it is not totaled, we are not entirely sure it will be repaired in time for this summer’s sailing season.
