Post Sea Cowboys

I just found this article on WIRED. This is really a great article about Marine salvors! (Pirates?)

http://www.wired.com/science/discove...urrentPage=all Reads like a Clive Cussler Novel

While it is not "sailing realated," it is related to seamanship.

Enjoy!

Ed

I've seen a couple of these ships while sailing, passing through Boston Harbor... Picture a 700 foot long x 80 foot high, by 80foot wide shoebox...

I watch them transit all the time between Tacoma and Seattle...One the great aspects of having a view home sometimes - its amazing how big and how fast those things go, and some even have more lights than a Cruise Liner...When we had our last 70 mph wind storm - they were still out there motoring through it....

Damn good story... Good to see that Mazda did the right thing, scrapping the cars. I know that one Honda dealership sold a bunch of cars that were "salvaged" from salt water immersion. There were serious problems with those cars.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Did anyone note that the proximate cause of the problem was the dumping of salt water ballast for salt water ballast, for the purported prevention of invasive species? An interesting, if dubious, environmental policy almost resulted in a major environmental incident.
