Sacrifices

As we all know at times we must makes sacrifices. At 1st they may not seem worth it but in the long run they usually are. We were supposed to go to Banner Elk to my in-laws this week end. At my work we have a rotation called manager on call. This is for emergency service. It is my week to be manager on call. this means I have to be able to be reached by our automatic call forwarding on the emergency service line. When I receive a call I have to explain the service rates and at that time if they elect to pay I will call one of the tech and dispatch them to the call. I can do this from anywhere I can get a cell signal. To my dismay I cannot get a cell signal on top of the mountains. it is my misfortune to have to sacrifice and miss the trip and find an alternate way to entertain myself with out the wife and daughter.

Let's see. It is 65 degrees and the wind is blowing about 13 mph. Any ideas???

65 degrees? nice temperature for getting the garden ready.... cleaning out the garage...... washing all the vehicles (except the one at the mountains, of course).....aerating the lawn....... take a nice walk to the nearest art gallery...... go to a home decorating seminar.....

Too bad you can't go out for a wee afternoon sail..... OR CAN YOU!?!

I been noticing something on here, seems if your from the great white north also known as Canada, if it's 65F or warmer, it's summer. (g)

As alluded to by Faster, there's probably something you "ought to" be doing. But given the nature of your managerial responsibilities, I'd think that being on the boat would be the best palce with fewest distractions to perform at an optimum level.

I'm on call myself for work. And I think it's such a good idea that I'm going to go over and get on my boat too! First I'm going to shovel the snow out from in front of the shed, then I'm going to try to get the door open, then i have to decide if I want to sit in the dark or turn the lights on, and now I remember that I didn't run electric out to the shed last summer and I need to do that first. How'd I end up back where I started?

ps
Tell me the part where you convinced the wife that the in-laws land line wouldn't be adequate. (g)

Jacky-

how is the cell coverage on the water??? Pretty good I bet. Might be wise to stay in an area with good cell phone coverage... even might be better for you to get out, away from the distractions on shore that might interfere with your ability to do your job...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Well I took what I thought was the best advise and secluded myself with a few friends and fluids away from shore where there were no trees, tall buildings or towers to interfere with the cell signal and I think the results were optimal.
It's tough work but someone had to do it. Beautiful day with good wind and only a few calls to handle
