Tailgate BBQs?

I was watching TV the other day when a show on Barbeques came on and the host was a fanatic with 17 different types in his backyard. One f these was a "tailgate BBQ" that used infrared to reach 1000 degrees plus! He mentioned that it would be perfect for sailboats etc. Does anybody have one of these, if so how much do they usually cost?

Phreak-

One of the companies used to make a nice suitcase sized one, but they've since discontinued it... no one makes them for the marine market. The suitcase sized one I mentioned was retailing for about $800 or so... which is why they had trouble selling them, and discontinued the product. If you're interested, I can dig up the name of the grill manufacturer that made it.

I dont know about this, got a link or pics? does it have mounting options? 1000 degrees sounds like something i may not want on a boat!

SD- If its really that expensive I wouldn't be buying it anyways so a company name isn't needed.

uspirate- I'm still searching for these but I also wondered if that kind of heat would work well on a boat, thats one of the reasons why I wanted to know if anyone had one.

I'm using this one
has push button start, and can be rail mounted. very content with it so far.

BTW, some other manufacturers have started making the small, semi-portable units, like what you would mount on a stern rail. Here's one that's about $200. Can't vouch for the quality or the grade of stainless steel they're using... but if you're interested in them... might be worth a look.

Here's another model, from another maker, that's a bit more money.. but is marine grade stainless.

IIRC, the original one I was thinking of was made by TEC.

"Solaire Anywhere Tailgaiting Portable Grill"

I'm pretty sure this is the one. Its about $300-500 on most websites. The only thing is I can't find the temp. so I might have been a little off but people did complain it was too hot.

The Solaire is a brand name, and sells for a bit more normally than the other grill I posted a link to.

The only drawback to the less expensive one is that it does not ship to Canada. Plus the solaire seems to have more of a recognition and due to it being a brand name, in my experience, there tends to be more support and accesories for a more well known prodoct.

Very true Phreak... and in some cases, you do get what you pay for. BTW, I have and use a Magma Newport grill on my boat, and it's been perfect for what I need.
