Would you go offshore in a S2 8.0?

How seaworthy are these small sailboats?

No, not in an S2 8.0. But then again, define off-shore... no definition of it I can think of would make the S2 8.0 an off-shore capable boat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

It is a pretty small, light displacement boat. Offshore? It would depend on when, where and who was the captain. It would have to be a very competent skipper and quite benign sailing. It is certainly not a heavy weather boat.

Offshore? Well, I'd consider a passage to the Bahamas from Florida or sailing to Catalina from LA, but I wouldn't make a passage to Bermuda, etc.

It all depends on how you define "offshore" ...how long, how far, etc.

In general, I think most would confidently classify the S2's as coastal racer/cruisers.

S2

I have been to the S2 plant years ago in Holland Michigan. They do a great job but have had some de-lamination issues.
Land in sight however is not offshore so I am not sure what you mean. I know I would not be comfortable even crossing Lk Mi if seas approached 10ft in an S2 that size.
Good sailing boat however
