I love photos that elicit a visceral/emotional reaction. In the photo at this address esourcemanager.org/captainjack/photodiscuss.html (cut and paste) I can feel the fear and perhaps terror and awe for the power of nature and the sea.

If real though and judging by the backwash from the stern, this guy's sliding backwards down the wave with danger of pitchpoling - not unlike the scene with Andrea Gail in The Perfect Storm.

I saw a similar picture, without the foreground and right side just yesterday that looked more original, but I couldn't figure out if that one was real.

Looks like a painting of a crew boat, leaving an oil rig.

It's definitely computer manipulated. Look carefully at the surface patterns of the water in the lower left hand quadrant - above and below the middle pipe rail. It's also repeated in lower right hand side. That's the result of sloppy cloning toolwork.

I'd agree it looks far more like a painting or illustration than an actual photograph. In seas and conditions like that, you'd expect some of the water to be airborne... and there isn't any.
