Marina possiblities in Outer Banks

My husband and I are heading to the Outer Banks in a couple of weeks for spring break. We want to scope out some areas for future retirement sites. Are there some marinas in North Carolina that are condusive to live aboards? Also looking for some suggestions on a day sail charter. Especially interested in small town areas. We are Lake Michigan sailors. Thanks for any suggestions.

Manteo, on Roanoke Island might suit you. Anywhere on the Outer Banks though, you will have to motor a ways to get to where you can sail, as it is rather shallow. Oriental, in my opinion is a great place, particularly if you're wanting to sail frequently. There are also a number of marinas in New Bern.
