Goals for this sailing season
I want to start a thread about what are yours goals for for the up coming sailing season.

I live in New York and the boat will be launched in the next few weeks. Every year I try to make a improvement to the boat, go some place I have not been, or sharpen a skill that needs some work.

What would you like to accomplish this sailing season?

Easy baby steps
I'm going to circumnavigate Kent Island with a view to circumnavigating the Delmarva peninsula if all goes well.

I'll be without a boat this season so I am going to crew on a J-105 this season during the Wednesday night races to learn some new skills. I've never seriously raced before so it should be an interesting change of pace.

Take my first sail out on open water. From San Fran down the pacific to Channel Islands.

Seems scary to me though because I've only been sailing for about 6 months

I worked hard for the past three years stripping, barrier coating and painting my keel and bottom, and making other repairs and upgrades, and this year I plan to circumnavigate Del Marva, crew on other peoples' boats in races, and perhaps race my own boat. Now that the hard work is done, it's time to play!

For the past 4 years we sailed my beloved Nauticat all along our coastal waters, living aboard every summer. Within that period however, I actually found time to make several system upgrades and improvements to finishes - interior and exterior, above and below the waterline.

Ironically, when everything was just the way I liked it - and as most know, we sold her - due to my better half's discomfort level, sailing on that boat. Strange that for the first time in over 20 years of boat ownership - we have no boat improvement goals and cruising plans for the 2008 season.

On the other hand, we're engulfed in the thrills of searching for replacement boats - forgot how much fun it was. What made it more enjoyable today, was when inspecting a true classic sailboat at Hinckley Yachts - my wife couldn't take her eyes off her. She loved the lines of her hull and how low to the water the cockpit was - a sharp contrast to the near 6 ft freeboard of our last cockpit.

Goals for this sailing season
To see my wife grow to appreciate the pure joys of leisure sailing, the way it was meant to be, and find the perfect boat for us.

I spent most of last summer changing heads, hoses and refrigeration so this year I want to sail more and go to desolation sound and maybe USA if the regs are not too onerous

I want to sharpen my sailing skills and perhaps win a race or two.

Ironically enough, my goal is to not have any goals, just let it flow.

My lists of goals are many...for the boat and the crew...But My #1 goal is to take it slow and make it fun...It will take several years to get the boat all dolled up the way I want paint and I am not the least bit concerned of what others think right now...I want my girls to learn to love sailing not feel like there on a slave ship...

Get it dirty ...scratch it up ding it up on the dock I dont care...Finesse will come...Take it slow practice.. practice... practice.. Its just a boat...I can buy another boat I cant buy another family...
