Volvo Folding vs Maxprop feathering

I want to replace my two fixed prop that came with the boat to reduce drag and improve performance over a two fixed bladed prop. There are two options (in my thinking), the maxprop 3 bladed ,that I love (I used one in my older boat), and the volvo retractable, three bladed also. the volvo is less expensive but has less drag. My maine concern is the aestern thrust with the volvo, since I used the maxprop I loved that, I am very worried about having control problems when going back (backways , excuse my english please). In the other side the volvo looks that will have improved performance going to the front by motorsailing and sailing...I will really apreciate opinions and coments.
PD The engine is a volvo md40 with a saildrive.
Thank you

Volvo Folding vs Maxprop feathering

Hi 4Fish; regarding ''yer 3-blade Max-Prop vs Volvo 3-blade question. I''d suggest staying with what ''ya know..3-blade Max. Installed one 2 yrs ago on my CS-40 after much "cogitation" (replaced a 2-blade folding Gori). I''ve been very happy..same cruising speed, more "punch in a chop", better reverse (although not an important factor) and much smoother. I''d suggest a primary consideration is that ''ya can get it rebuilt from PYY (the Max) for relatively few $. I looked at rebuild with my Gori and, as I understood it, the gearing made it problimatic. I believe the Volvo-3 is geared also so suspect the same applies. Good luck...Sketch
