Well, Joel and his wife Jayme, left yesterday night headed to Madrid then home...we are very sad, they really are good people and now became new friends. True friends...we had them here for 5 days, and we absolutely loved them...Giulietta misses them as do the kids, and me too off course.
She is absolutely amazing and a good fun person to be with, she is allways laughing and cheerfull, and Joel, well..he is an excellent sailor, and I gave him my boat and he sailed it OK...he deserves to drive it any time...(he stalled it once in 15 knot winds, but I excused and we laughed at it...it was funny to see the boat doing 0.00 knots...ehehehe he got used to it's vices..)
Tomorrow a new guest arrives, TDW (the Wombat thing)...more on that after
I don't want to steal their show, and I am eagerly awaiting their account of the stay in Portugal and with us...we took them everywhere worth seeing..they saw real 800's Castles, real Palaces, we sailed twice, one of the days form 10:30 am till 8:30 pm...Joel sailed and beat every single boat sailing with us...he sailed as he had never sailed before, as fast as he had never gone before..I think he liked it..
Like I said, I will let them do the telling, so please guys, wait for their account and posts....I am...
Just a teaser of what they did here
The 800's Castle of the Mours in Sintra
The Royal Palace of Pena in Sintra
They ate Ameijoas (clams) A Bolhao PAto
The went to the most Western part of Europe, where the Poet Camoes, in the Lusiads in 1500 says: "the point where the land ends and the sea starts"
They went to the Obidos Castle, probably one of the best preserved in the World, dated 1043.
They gave my Son Fred a replica of an Optimist..boy was he happy
Joel managed to stop my boat in a tack from 9 knots boat speed to THIS:
We laughed a lot
They touched Vasco Da GAma's tomb for sailors luck…he will now be a better sailor…some of Mr. Vasco Da Gama rubbed on them…
They sailed my boat at will
They saw Fred sail and went to fred's club, where we docked for coffee and pastries
They saw the Maritime Museum, they saw the boat I started sailing in the 1970's, they saw also the one (similar to mine) I was famous for 15 minutes in 1980...they ate perceves, saw kings and queens, they climbed to the top of the Monument of the Discoveries, they saw real canons, ate good fish. good beef, and excellent wine, and even saw what a storm looks like over here...
and they did more muuuuch more..I will let them tell you all.
They came as strangers, they left as family..
Faz boa viagem meu grande amigo, e a minha casa e a tua casa para sempre...obrigado Amigo Joel.
Alex e familia
