Age 7 (1969) my great uncle Harry taught me, my brother and cousin how to sail using a KOOL 10ft sail boat on the Indian River in Sebastian Florida, I still remember him sitting us down at the table in his home out on the porch and showing us how a sailboats works along with a heavy dash of safety...........He fiberglassed the bottom of the Styrofoam hull these boats had so the oysters on the west side of the river did not slice it up into tiny pieces.............shoes were/are a must when sailing these waters

Summer of '67... I was six.

We were at Christina lake (South Central BC) and my Dad had spent the winter building a Sabot in the garage. Armed with a life jacket, and the instructions "this thing moves that thing (the sail), and this thing moves that thing (the rudder), I got a pat on the back and a push off the beach. By the time I was 16 I had my CYA Silver VI and racing my Dad's CAL 25 in the 'Snowflake Series'.

Presently in between boats.... dying for a ride!

I know my parents had me aboard their sailboat when I was a wee tiny tot in diapers. And they tell stories of me doing stuff around the boat with adult supervision. I started doing a lot of solo sailing when I was 14-15 on a Zuma (I miss those boats). Before then, it'd be with the family on large boats (22 ft, 27 ft, 38 feet).

Started at 40, never lived anyplace else before where sailing was common.
