Paint sticker shock!

I just purchased $300 worth of topside hull and deck paint for my 25 footer. Ouch, that hurt!

Then I realized I could ease my pain by boasting about how cheap it is to paint my little 25 footer to all of your big boat yachtsmen! So here's my boasting, gloating post.

Welcome to the club, we just did the same. i thought for a moment that i might be in the wrong business. you will probably be amazed when finished at how nice new paint looks. We (Nimfy) still has one more coat to cover. but looks new right from the factory. test some out on something at home fisrt to make sure you like the finish and color.

Would one of those power painters work on painting the hull? You could tent the boat with cheap tarps for any over spray.

we rolled ours on after seeing the results my dock neighbor had with roller. smooth as a baby's booty since the paint is thick and smooths itself out.

A lot of the modern paints are fairly toxic if sprayed... so best to roll and tip if you don't have the professional equipment to do it.

What sort of paints do you guys use? I've been primarily looking at gel coats... but would be interested other paints.

Don't even think it. Not unless you want the same quality finish on your boat as you have on your walls. Even if you're spraying a non-toxic paint, a power painter will leave it looking worse than using a fat home depot roller.

I used Interlux Perfection, and the results still impress me a year later. I followed every instruction, and cut no corners. It took me about 6 weeks to paint the topsides, working mostly on the weekends.

I'd recommend Awlcraft 2000, if you want a two-part LPU paint.
