New to Sailing...Need Help

Looking for some assistance. I frustrated and looking for some guidance as to where I can find some information or book that will outline all parts of a sailboat. I recently purchased a 30' Hunter and in reading the survey it mentioned some items to address. I have scoured the internet today to get some understanding of the components that need to be addressed with limited success. I would like to find a book if possible that I can read and learn from over time. Any recommendations?

Try "The Handbook of Sailing" by Bob Bond. It covers rigging nomenclature, sailing techniques, types of rigs, etc. Even after several years of sailing I still refer to it often.

Happy- lot's of people here willing to help, not that any of them know any more than you but they'll crank out a couple of paragraphs for you . Seriously, post your questions and I bet you'll have your answers pdq. Nigel Calders books have a tremendous amount of info. in them, I refer to them often.

Happy,

Tell us what year your 30' Hunter is and the list of repairs and you will be bombarded with info on what to do and how to do it. I hope.

Don Casy's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual has been invaluable for me over the last year since I purchased my first large sailboat.

I don't always follow Casey's instruction, but they are a great starting point for research even if you don't do exactly as instructed. It is also an excellent reference for someone without years of experience working on large boats, and provides a general frame of reference to help understand the repair guys when you do break down and look for professional help. There are lots of other books with as good and sometimes more relevant guidance, but none quite as complete. This is an excellent reference for the price.

This forum has also been a great reference, however, and is a lot cheaper (and sometimes more contentious) than books....

Good luck.
