Don Casy's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual has been invaluable for me over the last year since I purchased my first large sailboat.
I don't always follow Casey's instruction, but they are a great starting point for research even if you don't do exactly as instructed. It is also an excellent reference for someone without years of experience working on large boats, and provides a general frame of reference to help understand the repair guys when you do break down and look for professional help. There are lots of other books with as good and sometimes more relevant guidance, but none quite as complete. This is an excellent reference for the price.
This forum has also been a great reference, however, and is a lot cheaper (and sometimes more contentious) than books....
Good luck.
