A shark at Cape Lookout NC!!
OK ... I uploaded a video to youtube we took this past weekend of what we are assuming is a shark at Cape Lookout NC.

YouTube - A shark at Cape Lookout NC

Is there any doubt at all that this was a shark? If so let me know. I've already been exaggerating the story to sound like we had to fight it off with our bare least I want to hear others agree it was a shark.

Anybody have a theory of how big, what type etc??

It is so fast...and the movement seemed very repeated. To me looked like one of those Sun fish or moon fish or whatever...but whatever it is is big

It looks like a Dolfin feeding to me.

That was odd as hell, it sure did act like any shark I've ever seen and the size of that dorsal and no sign of a tail, would lead me to believe that if it was a shark, that baby was BIG !!!!

I don't think it was a shark.

It looked very much like the Cownose Rays (Rhinoptera bonasus) we routinely see in the Chesapeake. They sometimes "fly" along the surface while feeding, and their "wing tips" will frequently break the surface, looking somewhat like the dorsal fin of a shark, but usually floppier.

That's what I first thought, it was a Ray of some kind, the convexed shape of the fin just didn't look like a dorsal of a shark

Definitely a ray! I've seen them many times swimming like that in the Chesapeake. Usually, there are more than one, though.

Looks more like a wombat.

On second thought, it could have been a Sea Serpant. This is one that we saw with our own eyes (actual photo):

Where is Rockter? He should be an expert on these...:D :D

Only shark that can move left and right so sharply is a hammerhead, yet NC would be too cold for them... I don't think it's shark either...
