How I spent my (Cold) Weekend

It was very cold here again this weekend, but the boat is on the water.

So I did the feeding of the sails.........

While my teenage daughters did the cranking.........

And cranking..........

Julie did the supervising........

After the sails were up we installed the dodger and bimini.

Finally we heard that Xort was in the market for a new boat,
so we stopped by this little beauty to take a look for him.

Do you see Julie and Samantha standing next to the keel bulb?

She is a Nelson Marek 70 according to the skipper.

A close up of my Girl's by the keel.

Xort said he was looking for something that might be more suitable for liveaboard ability. He said he needs more cabin space, so he took a pass on this one.

And that is how I spent my weekend.
We are now ready for sailing if the weather ever allows it.

man o man that is a beautiful spot you have there. just may have to add you to the "you suk" list :D

Eldeans Shipyard definately belongs on the 'you suk' list. nice spot there just off lake michigan.
TJK can you tell the story of Ellisons boat in the shed?
Get a ride on Windquest yet?

Denali was not bad but that keel would have been a bit of a problem in the Bahamas. We're negotiating a refit to make it a swing keel, then I'll be all set. We're thinking of adding a pilothouse too

I hear and have seen a boat that is supposed to belong to Larry E. it has been sitting dry for a couple of years now.
Its tucked into a corner in the main shed and would not be a good photo oppurtunity, but I can try if you want me to.

If it's was so cold, why were you in shirtsleeves? ;)

On the bright side though, you're writing about being on the boat, rather than wishing you were. And at least you had help with the headsail. Try doing it by yourself sometime (G).

I did the same this past weekend, working in the cold and chop. We are at Eldeans as well (D-dock), next to that 78 footer that is heading for Seattle in a couple of days! I figure better to get the work done when it is cold and enjoy Lake MI when it is nice!

Thanks Pirate. ( I think )

Here are a couple of shots of the local scenery from our pier, also taken this weekend.

A couple of local summer homes....http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...008Boat008.jpg

The view across the channel........

We will have to get together this summer.

I know that boat, its also named "Julianna", she was formerly "Sassy".
Pretty famous on the Great Lakes during the 80's.

It would be great to meet! We plan to spend a lot of time on the boat as it is our first year with her. We moved here from New York 18 months ago...

Story is that Ellison brought his boat to race the mac and left it in Eldeans ever since. With a ton of stuff for it too. Just some spare change for the storage bill
