Wow! What a story.
Just from that interview, it sounds like they were a well prepared and organized family that really worked together. I definitely get a sense of not only a tight knit family but a daman good crew. Can you imagine the shock those kids must have been in? For that young man to keep his head and apply a tournequet, with everything else going on, and thinking he's going to lose his father. He was a very strong and brave young man on that day.

I look forward to learning more of their trials. Interesting subtitle to the book, as well.

I saw the News this morning. I felt cheated by the media as they cut it off short. I would like to know if they intend to continue with following their dream? I can only hope!

Wow! The Brady Bunch (minus a few - Sway's kind of people) goes cruising to Fiji. A black wave indeed it was.
I am sure someone was driving even if it was the autopilot. The autopilot does not know about paper charts though. Sounds to me like like another case of over-reliance on chart plotters that should not have happened. What about keeping watch?
The problem I have with ocean passages is that you can get lulled into accepting the 'advice' from a chart-plotter/GPS such that a rigid watch schedule is not adhered to.
Radar would not likely have picked this up but perhaps forward scanning sonar would have as well as an awake person at the helm.
Another catamaran becomes part of the reef in the South Pacific.
I am glad that they are all lucky and alive.

I feel for them and I am glad they made it out alive, but this doesn't appear to be a case of "despite doing everything right". It's another one of those stories that makes people tell us we are nuts for thinking of doing that sort of thing when everyday life can be just as dangerous if you cut corners on safety procedures that are usually unnecessary.
