Bit off more then I could chew

Well I still havent launched and looks like it will be another month.. As you all know I am a proponent of paying as I go and wont barrow money for my boats...Between Chemotherapy and work this winter being basicly nonexistent and spring slow to get to the PNW funds are in the toilet.....Basically I had 5 months off and that pretty well destroyed our savings...

I had the yard do a few things not originally budgeted on my boat and now its biting me...I will have 1/2 paid off this month and the other half next month around the 10th..

I have sat down and talked to the yard owner and he is a supper guy...He has had 80K worth of work in the past year skip town on him ... some from very rich people... ...and now has instituted a policy of no launch untill paid in full...I dont blame him...He dosent know me from Adam and is just protecting himself...Being self employed I am the last one to get paid if a job gos bad so I can relate very well..

So I sit in my boat drinking a beer... dreaming of healing, waves slipping by or even gently rocking at anchor...Another month will pass sure as the sun rises and falls on the horision...Work is picking up and I am getting busyer...life goes on....Just another succession of ebb and floods in the life of a man.

Nutz,

I keep watching for an extra mast on our float each time I go down to the boat. I even did something to make you feel more welcome when you finally bring it over. I scraped a bunch of spots on my teak toe-rail and then left it bare, so it looks like crap now. That way you can have the prettiest boat on the float until I get it cetoled again.

I know how it is for the yard owner. My brother-in-law and I were in business for ourselves for two years after I got out of the army. We had a couple of guys stiff us and our profit margins were so slim, it put us under.

By the way, when you bring your boat over, you need a zero tide or better or you'll get stuck at the second bottle neck coming in. Don't ask how I know that.

Ahh yea, I can relate, as my boat exceeds my budget as well. It didn't used to be that way, but the fuel oil bill for my house is ruining me.

Still,
Go get yourself a pistol and head off to the nearest 7-11. Hell, that's what they're there for! That's what I do when I get a little short on cash.

My yard has the same policy for the same reason. You either need to pay off your bill or give them a credit card before they launch. Hang in there, June is not that far away.

Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better I havn't launched yet either. I'm going up to the boat next weekend and spending the week getting it ready. Launch is not until the 30th.

Good news is if you drink enough beer while sitting on your boat you will heal, even if your boat doesn't.

Still, I feel for you!

At our marina painted right on the travel lift "NO cash, NO splash." Things will brighten up for you i,am sure. Is there work at the marina you could help with as exchange for payment?

You mean that you are NOT Obnoxious enough for them to want to get rid of you and your boat?
A. Loud music.
B. Beer Bottles all over the place
C. Discarded clothing all over the place.
D. Failure to shower or shave for weeks on end.
E. Loud Yipping, yapping, barking pets.
F. Bird feeders to attract Diaria infected birds to that boat yard.
G. Maniacal looks and laugher as you do something crazy.
H. Tell everyone that you are close friends with several well known serial killers.

And IF none of the above works.... Pay you bills.

I know it's not the same, but come on down to Edmonds and let's go sailing!

I'm sure Jody could use some crew as well, once he stops monkeying with his boat and starts sailing her.

There's plenty of ropes to pull and things to figure out on his boat.
