Denby-

I think you'll find that slacking off on the topping lift, when it is all rope, will work just fine.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Dog,

You can check it out in July when I sail to Buzzards Bay. Don't forget you owe me dinner for the Boston Patriots loss.

I found this hanging on my shops wall today and you seemed a little unsure of the type of splice you had so I thought Id show you a wire to rope splice...This is an old one off my boat ...my mizzen halyard is still rigged this way...You can see the rust stains coming through the line where the cable is embedded about a foot. These actually hold up very well if done properly..and of course have no problum running through a shiv designed for it.

His line-to-wire join was the rope eye spliced to a thimbled eye in the wire... not a proper wire to rope splice at all. UGH... BTW... a shiv is something a shank someone with in prison, a sheave is a grooved wheel found in a block.
