Florida bound...need ideas soon

We''re taking a short fact-finding trip to Florida in a couple days and need to be pointed in the right direction. The goal is to find a place where we can buy an inexpensive sailboat or houseboat and live aboard and work in the area. We have our sights set on the gulf coast but are open to other ideas. Things like marinas with liveaboard slips, costs, boats for sale...we have a few days open to get down there and get some idea if our dream of getting out of the cold country is realistic or not. Come on, everyone, where would you go take a look if you had a short vacation to make the best of with? THANKS!

Salaries may not be as high as those you get in the "cold" states. I was warned that they consider "sun bucks" compensation. The better tax environment usually results in a
10% bonus. If you xfer health insurance, check with your carrier. You might wish to grab an apartment for 6 months and do your
boat/marina searches in person.

Probably the best place to look for a boat in Florida is the Ft. Lauderdale area. The canals are full of boats of all kinds, and there are a lot of canals.

I would agree with Sarasota,Ft myers! Sarasota being named as one of the 10 best places to live in the USA, but it is also hard to find live aboard Marina''s there. If anyone knows of any please let me know. I have also found it hard to find dock space there! Lots of luck
