Positive flotation
I mentioned in the thread on the tragedy that it is a sobering reminder for those of us with postive flotation that having the boat on top of the water doesn't mean it is a good place to be. I did not and do not want to hijack that thread, but I did want to explain this further. My sailboat (N17) should not sink even if it fills with water and has all parts attached. People cross oceans in little Potters because they are unsinkable. But you have to remember this counts as "not sunk":
I am not picking on Potters; they are fine little boats. I imagine the same thing could happen to mine, but I just haven't seen a picture (and no, I don't want to pose for one). I think I would still rather be in a keel boat if go into blue water on a monohull.
