Heck, that ain't fog. We sailed out of South Haven Michigan on a beautiful day back in the 70's, heading for Bailey's Harbor in Wisconsin. Hit a fog bank 15 miles off the Wisconsin shore so thick we couldn't see 10 feet. I was at the mast listening, my daughter was at the bow looking for shore, boats, or anything else, my friend Jim was at the helm of a 38 center cockpit sloop, and I couldn't see either one of them! We stayed in Bailey's Harbor two days before we could see enough to venture out again! Thank God for foghorns! Without the foghorn we would never have found the marina. Second day we met a guy in a 26 or 28 foot Swan who was rammed by an idiot fisherman in the pea soup. Only time in my life I was scared while sailing, and I have lived through some bad storms on Lake Michigan. After that experience, my advice would be - don't ever plan on popping out the other side! Go back if you can.
