In the water-at last!

We finally splashed the new (to us) boat a couple of weeks ago. Six months of work, mucho dinero, a couple of uh-ohs, and we have our dream boat! It came right down to the wire (doesn't it always), stepped the mast in the morning and rigged it, did some wiring, and then they were there to pick it up and take it to the ramp. Laurie was cleaning up inside and I was running mooring lines and hanging fenders as they were driving us down the streets of Anacortes to the water. Everything went amazingly well, no leaks, engine started, we were floating! Strange to have the boat move after that long on the hard. The guy that made the dodger finished installing it while at the dock, and then we were away (after a champagne toast) to our island 12nm away. It was a beautiful evening and there was even a little breeze so we got to sail for a while ( I was loving it!). There are lot's of things left to do but at least it's home and we can daysail it until everything is working. Hope to have it ready for at least a short trip by August.

Lot's of pics-can you tell I'm pretty happy?

Getting her ready to go after the launching-me at the bow, my brother Doug (I owe him big time for helping during his vacation), Laurie, the rest of the clan including Dad who came out from NY (our youngest son got married at the island this week too).

We're off!

Ahhhhhhhh!

Perfect first sail

Motorsailing off Cypress Island on the way to Blakely Island from our crab boat

Dad inspecting the cockpit

My friend Steve checking my navigation (he's looking at Bristol Bay where he used to run a cannery)

At last- in the slip

Close up of the new decks and hardware

And the boat's pretty sharp as well

Hope you get more enjoyment from her than you thought possible.

I hear ya! Seems I'm working dawn to dusk every day on "little" things. I've become the entertainment of my dock neighbors. They sit around and drink while watching me and marveling at all the work I'm getting done!

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
