I've really decided that early season and late season sailing is best. This guy I race with today said, "you think this bad, wait until august"

Hello,

I raced tonight. We left Mt. Sinai harbor at 6:30. By 7:00 we had a nice 10kt wind from the south that lasted all evening. We had a poor start but sailed well in the race.

Sometimes I teach.

I tell my students during really light air, "when the wind picks up by 5 knots, we both gain about 50 points in IQ, both as instructor and as student".

Which is true. No wind, no teach, no learn.....

My boat is heavy. Anything less than 8 can be very frustrating.

Well, yeah, trying to sail with no air does suck.

Happened to us yesterday. We were going over for a haul-out and prop swap. Figured we could sail about 1/3 of it. (Basically the bits outside the canals, creeks and rivers.) But, despite the fact 5-15 kts. was predicted the day before, and the two days preceding had had nice air, yesterday was a sailing wash-out. So we had to motor all the way there and all the way back. Good thing our prop issue didn't get worse on the way over and was resolved by the prop swap for the trip back, is all I can say.

The next three four days or so are predicted to be bloody hot and humid, with wind varying from non-existent to small-craft-advisory-levels-and-above. (That's not the true forecast, naturally, just my interpretation of it, based on experience.) So I think this weekend's "sailing" experience is going to consist of just going out and giving her a good wash .

Jim

Try sailing backwards for 6 hrs in a distance race and giving up 5-6 NM of your travel......, twice! Oh, no skinny dipping up here, unless ya have a deathwish.
