Talking Redneck Rocna

This is mostly for Dog, Sway and TJK. I wanted to thank them for their concern about my safety at anchor and all the great info. They convinced me I really need a Rocna, but that would cut a little bit too deep in the beer, butter and egg money. But with a little ingenuity, I was able to work out a fine solution...

Ladies and gentleman, the 2008 Redneck Rocna:

Uhm, Boasun - there's 3 pieces of it in the picture. I guess the darker color of that roll threw you off.

Here is my actual anchor with a chain added. I do need to replace the anchor, probably with the economy claw at BW. But I bet it does a better job with the chain and me paying more attention to scope.

That looks like polypro line and dog chain. Not so good. You better come raft up to me. You bring the beer.

The chain is #2 galvanized and yes, that is polypro line supplied by the PO with the anchor. I think the line and chain are probably okay for that little anchor, but the anchor is not enough for the boat under all conditions. The N17 only weighs 1000# + people and gear, so it doesn't need much most of the time. I had used it a few times with success, but when I tried in about 6' with 10-15 kt winds, it didn't hold. So I need a better anchor. When I get the claw, I will also get chain and line to go with it leaving this full setup as a secondary.

Hey arbarnhart,

I was drinking a Coke when I first saw your OP. Would have responded sooner but had to clean the Coke out of my keyboard that shot out of my nose! THANKS for the POST!!

BTW, when I responded with more info about that setup, I didn't mean I wasn't open to critique. I think it is a balanced setup for a little smaller boat, like a dinghy and that I am closer to that size boat than you might realize.
