Right on! I was beginning to worry. September was getting close. I am glad to have the representation that I have. Both my senators and congressman were co-sponsors of the bill.

IIRC, basically, the act exempts recreational boats from the requirement to have a discharge permit to discharge bilge and grey water overboard. These permits are required by commercial ships, and are partially designed to stop invasive species from being transported.

I saw a blurb about this in BoatUS's rag that comes out every month. When I dug a little deeper, I nearly crapped my pants. Permits for deck runoff? Permits for the cooling water from your exhaust? I had visions of an air-cooled outboard with a huge Tecumseh 4 stroke attached.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who don't have a clue are in a position to control things they don't understand.

Seeing how I have not read the Clean Boat Act. Are there any nasty surpises in said bill?

Under the new law, your boat must be squeaky clean! No more Eyesore 34's allowed.

This law applies to the topsides, deck, bottom, and cabin! Inspections, to be conducted by a new gov't agency (Agency for Sanitiation and Security, on the Water Inspections, Policing, Etc -- acronym tbd), will commence at the beginning of the new fiscal year. Their website indicates they have begun accepting employment applications.

Sounds like the perfect job for an AFOC!
