If anyone has tried to download free ENC charts from the NOAA chart server in the last few days--the server is ill, it aborts downloads before they are done.
NOAA is apparently aware of this but doesn't seem to think they should notify anyone about it. However, their support staff say:
"We are having problems with your [sic] Chart Server.
Try our Beta backup server at:
Product Server (beta) for NOAA ENCs®.
Product Server (beta) for NOAA ENCs®."
And the beta backup server is working just beautifully. ENC charts by area, updates, or a huge zip file that has them all in one bundle, up to date.
The Sailnet board won't handle that URL properly. After the usual aitch-tee-tee-pee-colon-slash-dubdudbdub. It is: charts.noaa.gov/ENCs/ENCs.shtml
And apparently the Sailnet advertising engine likes to hijack the word "charts" (ooh! something to sell!) even from the middle of the hyperlink. Uh, admins? Could you drop a memo to someone to see if they could stop that annoying hijack?
