Sailnet...Update

Hi all!
There have been several threads recently complaining of site slowness and "certificate expired" warnings popping up and these have been frustrating. I've been in contact with Sailnet management and here is a bit of an update:

1. "Certificate Expired" warnings will be fixed by Monday 7/28
2. The site slowness will be cured by moving the database to the former mail list server. This will take place over the next week or two and user may see occasional slowdowns in the interim. Please bear with us.
3. E-mail lists have migrated to on-line special interest groups which can be seen in the main "Sailnet Community" menu. Groups have been created for every e-mail list that had ANY activity since April 2008.

Just wanted to give an update as I know some of this stuff is frustrating and the good news is that we will soon have a fix. I will sticky this and remove in a week or so.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

When you say that the e-mail lists have been "migrated" to special interest groups, does that mean the e-mail lists are not going to be used moving forward? If we post on the web message board, will it also be distributed via e-mail?

Thanks for your continuing work! I used to moderate a board and e-mail list with several thousand members and the amount of work is tremendous and unforgiving.

Thanks guys...
I have no info on outages Dawg...just was told to expect some slowdowns. We were outthis AM for a short while.

Labatt...my understanding is that the E-mail lists are now migrated to the web and will NOT include e-mail functionality for new posts.

Sway...the plan to delete all of Dawgs posts has been put on hold as we were told that just the deleting would overheat the server.

ALL...you may all note some words with ****'s in them. We have implemented the MUCH scaled back version of an automated profanity filter but there are still some issues with some words that contain the profane within them and yet are perfectly acceptable...so far the only problem I am aware of is a synonym for rooster ...but if anyone finds any other word similarly affected, please advise so that we may work on a fix. Thanks!
