Anyone have an old Std Horizon DS?
G'day mates - Our 1993 era Standard Horizon DS 30 depth sounder screamed (literally, it screamed with a high pitched wail for about 5 seconds) and died. I have a new Northstar plotter/radar/depth sounder/espresso maker that I hope to get online later this winter (takes too much money, you know). So I want to replace the simple little unit I have for the rest of the season. It appears they don't make simple little units anymore, and I don't want to spend money on a new unit that will be replaced soon anyway. I know, redundancy is a good thing, but redundancy takes too much money at the moment.
Soooo.... Does anybody here have an old/extra Std Horizon DS 30 or 35 unit they replaced and no longer need? Or another manufacturers small unit that would "talk" to the transducer? By small I mean the unit measures all of 5 inches wide, 2 inches tall, and an inch deep - all it does is read out the depth.
I've tried eBay and Craig's List, and checked with used marine stores, all to no avail so far. Obi-Wan, you're my only hope...
PS - I didn't want to put this in Gear & Maintenance as I thought more folks would see it here in General Discussion. Thanks!

Keep trying ebay, they pop up fairly regular. I bought mine from there last year. But doing that time noticed they come and go all the time. Usually from people upgrading.

Try contacting Standard Horizon direct. I have an old West Marine branded unit and they repaired the control head for under $80.

I'm going to look in the basement in a bit, did not see my old Standard stuff in the garage. I have a funny feeling I tossed it all, or wife did more likely. If I find it, I'll send you a PM with my C# and the # on Crane I will be at later tomorrow into sat mid day.
I am not sure my stuff is teh same model, but it is older standard stuff I replaced last yr with Raymarine.

Thanks all! I keep checking eBay. And I'll try contacting Std Horizon directly (I assumed they were no longer in business). And thanks for looking in your basement, blt2ski. If all else fails, I'll look into the Raymarine ST60...

Moon..
I have one BUT if I sell it I loose a perfectly good NavPod so I'm very apprehensive to part with it alone..
Here's a pic of the NavPod with DS35 and an ST-60 AP Head.
If you're interested in it with the NavPod let me know..

Moonfish,
Checking in here at Anacortes, heading to Orcas then crane. I did not see the units in the basement, nor the garage. I have a feeling I or spouse did toss them. I did find the old VHF!
Good luck on what you do. I will admit, I like the ST60+'s way better than the Standards we had! I got the tri pack they have with three guages, ie wind, speed and depth. Granted three holes instead of two, but still cheaper than the depth/speed together and wind seperate!

Halekai, thanks but my old binnacle isn't quite set up for a Navpod. Thank you for checking Marty. Should be a nice, hot weekend over on Crane!
If I can't come up with one (used) soon, I may opt for the ST60 depth. Small challenge will be mounting it. Instruments are in the pilothouse, and the old DS was mounted up. I'll have to find out if the ST series come with mounting brackets (as opposed to mounting flush in a bulkhead or nav wall).
Thanks again!
