Transient Slips - Annapolis
Hello Friends,
A friend of mine is sailing to Annapolis mid-September from way up North in the Chesapeake.
Here's what she's looking for:
Slip for 2 nights
Walking / Water Taxi to Downtown Annapolis
Somewhat quiet -
Pumpout
Showers
30 Amp service
27 ft Hunter - 4 feet of water is OK!
Don't break the bank....
She doesn't want to be "in the center of it all" but would want to enjoy downtown for a couple of nights.
Any suggestions / experiences would be welcome and appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Craig

If price is not a big concern, I would simply stay at the City Docks. But any marina on Back or Spa Creek would work, as to my knowledge, the water taxi serves both areas. Plus, except for the south side of Back Creek, Downtown is within walking distance (mile or less).
Having stayed at the City Docks last year though, I felt the facilities were not equal to the price of the slip.

A cheaper alternative is a mooring ball in the harbor, but having a dinghy would be a big help. The water taxi doesn't run start until maybe 11am or so and would be expensive to take every time you want to go into town. Mears marina in eastport is an easy walk into town and i think they take transients.
Bzeer, the city docks right on ego alley have been totally redone over the winter. CITY tore out the old ones right after the powerboat show last fall. Redid that whole area but I haven't been able to see it yet. Same showers though as far as I know. those slips also are noisy as hell.

Consider Eastport Yacht Center (eastportyachtcenter.com). They are on Back Creek at the end of Second Street, so you can walk a few blocks across Eastport and catch the water taxi from the Chart House, saving the premium for the taxi to come around to Back Creek. It is a doable if long walk downtown, as are all the North-side Back Creek marinas. They are cheaper than Mears. I lived there for a year and some out-of-town racing friends continue to tie up there for Annapolis races. Recommended.
Also, call the North Sails loft in Eastport. They run Allsop's Marina behind the loft and often have a couple of slips available.
There is a pump-out boat in Annapolis that serves Spa and Back Creeks.
If you have a dinghy and can do without shore power the moorings in Spa Creek are great. Even without a dinghy they are pretty good.
Annapolis City Marina on Spa Creek is nice also.

Try Port Annapolis Marina or Bert Jabin's. Water taxi or dinghy into the city dock area. Or dinghy across to Mears and walk over the bridge. Better yet, enjoy Eastport and ignore the city dock area.

I wouldn't recommend either of those given that Craig's friend said she is looking to have easy access into Annapolis. Water taxi is $3.50 from Port A or $4.00 from Jabin's *BUT* minimum of 3 people, which means she could pay as much as $12 one way. Better to stay on the N. side of Back Creek (Mears/Allsops/Eastport Yacht) and walk; or a mooring ball in the harbor ($25/night and $2 for water taxi)

i've stayed at mears a couple times before. I don't remember how the prices compare (it might be a little expensive, not sure) but the facilities are top notch. Very nice showers, washer/dryer, and I think I remember a nice pool with a bar.

I spent 2 weeks anchored in Back Creek last year prior to the boat show and found it quite handy. Short dinghy ride to the 6th St dinghy dock (free) and a short walk to the bus stop, or a bit further into downtown.
