Catalina 22. Strengths and Weaknesses?
Hi, I just bought my second bought, a cat 22. I had a cal20 for 4 1/2 months before. I live in Honolulu, and want to venture further and further out and around. I've never been too far. Assuming the boat is in good shape, how do you think this will sail here.
Basically, it's on the south shore with winds 12-22 knots from the east/ne. The water is pretty rought though. I particularily noticed this when I went kayaking in puget sound this summer. with about the same wind speeds, there is much, much roughr seas in honolulu, especially once you get out about a half mile outside of the lee of diamond head landmass.
I read a little broshire thing that said catalina 22's aren't made for ocean crossings. Are these sturdy boats? Say once I get a little better(or gutsier) I could sail around the SE corner of the island where it's windier and much rougher to Kaneoher bay?
Basically, I'm still pretty new here, and I'm wondering what I shouldn't do, based on the boat's limitations, not on mine. Thanks for your time.
