Michael,

Thanks for taking a look at her (and for the compliment). We're holed up in a hotel in Richardson tonight, and headed there tomorrow to see first hand. Where is your boat docked? Would love to stop by and say thanks in person some time. We're going back tomorrow to put her back together and get her ready to sail, but I have to admit, it doesn't feel like it's going to be a nice place to be for a long time. My heart aches for the many boats and even more homes that were slammed.

With all that's going on with politics and the economy, Ike just isn't getting much press. I don't think the rest of the country has any idea how badly the area was damaged. I'd hate to be the guy in charge of raising money for the red cross right now! Just saw an interview online with the CEO of landry's (who put together the boardwalk) he estimated they lost 50 - 100 million between Kemah and Houston.

Thanks again for taking the effort to go look over our home.

I got word from a dockmate today that electricity and water are back on pier 17 at waterford harbor. Unbelievable. What a range of emotions to sit hundreds of miles away wondering whether you'd ever see your boat again to heading back tomorrow to something very close to normalcy. I only wish that we were the norm rather than the exception...

Steve,
My boat is at South Shore Harbor Pier 5.
I'll PM you my email and cell #, we'll get together for a beer with Gulf and hopefully toast all our good fortunes (still no word on his boat).
The devistation is overwhelming, It will be a long time until the area looks the same.
Fuel/electricity have come back to most of the area, but ice is still at a premium. I spoke to the gentleman that owns "Twice the Ice" stands, he is selling out 9 tons a day in about 6-8 hours from his 3 machines.

Longhorn,

Thanks for the offer to check on things. I did get confirmation from a dockmate that my boat was okay. I am going down tommorow to check on things myself. I will take some pictures to post here on sailnet. If anyone else needs me to check anything out let me know.

From what I hear Sundance Grill is devestated as is the shipyard office. All the boats that were on stands in the shipyard are gone. From the pictures I have seen the area around HSH seems to be the worst and there is a large motor yacht blocking the road just past the bridge.

glad to say that all my family are okay as most of you know, i'm from Taxes uh err i mean Texas. i was conversing with some low life Blackjack players yesterday from Houston and they asked me why i left Texas.. my reply was " because all the New Yorkers moved in". their hesitant reply was...well we're originally from New York, i just nodded and said have a nice day. i hope all Texas Boaters are safe and sound... the New York Texans can Bite Me!

We.re back on the boat. No damage at all. As I look at the pilings, it looks like we had about 5-6 more feet before floating off. Thank goodness that we didn't get the predicted surge.

We have electricity, water and wireless. The ramp from the walkway to the pier was broken as previously reported, but they're out there fixing it as we speak.

We took a walk over to the portion of watergate yacht center that has fixed piers. It's a disaster. I took pictures and will post a link after getting our stuff from the truck to the boat (after the ramp's fixed).

boat repair jobs?

i don't want to sound un-remorsful for all those unfortunate boat owners...but... i've just moved back to houston from central Oregon, as the first step toward getting a sailboat(still saving up) and this seems like a good time to learn the sailboat repair business. i'm quite a capable carpenter by trade(finish/trim) with minimal FG experience(built a cedar strip canoe). so does anyone know someone down that way whoose going to be looking for someone like me or is just to soon to start looking into this. p.s. see my work at my name, first and last, dot com.
