Yep, been following it. Current models have it coming right over my house. Typical. I cannot get away from these things.

Gabrielle - rode out on my boat.
Charlie - Went right over my house in Cape Coral.
Jean, Francis, Ivan (though Cam really got Ivan, not me) - been there done that.
Rita - Yep. At that particular inopportune time, I was in th middle of a remodel on my house. The entire roof was off (down to the trusses).
Gustav - Not that bad, just lots of rain and a bit of wind.
Ike - Bite me.

Hey Brian, I heard that you were still worring about your power cord rather than preparing for a hurricane. Whats a little wind? And maybe the rain will help to cool that connection.

But better safe than sorry, I'm going down tonight to finish prepping the boat and will set my anchor.

Good luck to all others on the TX coast.
Don't assume that because you are farther up in the bay you will have less storm surge. See this blog.
Wunder Blog : Weather Underground
It looks like the worst of the surge will be farther up the bay!

If you can put your boat somewhere besides those floating docks do it! Most of the floating docks in Pensacola Bay during Ivan were washed off thier pylons taking all of the well secured boats with them to crash into the beach.

I wish all of you in Texas good luck! Maybe this storm won't pan out the way they are saying.

Burned out shore power cords make great dock lines.

You guys are missing the point.

You see, I run off of solar. I am the Solar God. It is my intention to SELL my electricity to the poor buggers around me. It will work, believe me. When it comes down to saving a few hundred or keeping your beer cold, I have no doubt my fellow Texans will make the right choice!!

Left my boat this morning at Waterford Harbor. If we get a 20 ft surge, we're toast. Sold my house and moved onto the boat last month. Great timing, huh?

Wish us luck!

Ouch. I have been there and feel your pain.

Go through the hurricane prep thread which is a sticky above this thread. Hopefully you can find some info in there to help you out and increase your odds.

SVLagniappe,
Can you haul her, or is it too late for that?

By the way, GOOD LUCK! I went through this a couple of weeks ago with Hanna. I mean it: GOOD LUCK.
