Amazing how many are already in use in Europe, nearly every fishing boat seems to have fitted Class B (if not A) and a surprising number of pleasure craft as well. My own experience is that it is a really useful tool. The only snag seems to be that few Class B receivers transmit ship's name, just their MMSI number, whereas all Class A do.
Now what we need is a proper Radar/AIS/ECDIS/Chartplotter/GNDSS radio integration with click icon to initiate an MMSI radio call.
Shinemicro has a unit that has the GPS and the transponder in a single antenna that will be easy to install - just plug into a USB port. They say it is ready to go - only waiting for approval.
