annapolis sailboat show..

If one wants to take a boat to the show, how early do you need to be there to get a mooring ball?

Can I leave Wednesday afternoon?
What areas are ok to stay in? I assume some of the normal mooring areas will be taken up by the show.

Thanks,
groundhog

Last week.

Seriously, we were in Annapolis this weekend by boat. I had called the Harbormaster's Office ahead of time and they told me all the available moorings below the bridge were already leased through the show.

Some of the moorings below the bridge get taken over for the boat show, so there will be fewer available.

However, we were able to grab a mooring above the drawbridge on Friday evening. These are for boats less than 35 feet. I don't know whether these are already reserved for the show? Your best bet is to call the Harbormaster's Office and ask.

You're too late already!
You may be able to anchor up Spa creek or Back Creek and take a dinghy in. Be prepared to use two anchors as it is typically crowded and 2 are needed to reduce swinging room.

I tacked through Annapolis Harbor on Saturday and not only were the mooring balls all taken, but the anchorage area to the east of the Naval Academy seawall was packed as well.

Try Weems Creek. It's a bit of a dingy ride, but sometimes open.
If you are Navy you can catch a ball at the Annapolis Naval Station - if they still have one open.
