Trailering an O'day 23

Hello all,
I just picked up an O'Day 23 and am wondering how practical is it to run it as a dry boat. I don't have much experience with this boat's rigging and I really don't want to waste half a day rigging it every time I sail her. All advise would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Particlepood

particle, what do you mean by running it as a dry boat?

Stepping the mast on land?
Leaving the baot in the water?

I am not sure what you mean.

By the way I dont think it will take you half a day to rig the boat. I used to have a Macgregor 25 and I would take it to lake by myself and I could step the mast and have it in the water by myself in under 30 minutes. It wasnt that big of a deal, the toughest part was just getting the mast up but I had two pieces of lumber cut that made it simple for me.

That is the only thing you should have to rig. You should be able to leave all the standing and running rigging attached and it will be pretty much ready as soon as the mast is up. What took me longer was putting the outboard on the bracket, putting in the fuel tank, cooler, things like that.

Particelpood....interesting handle : )

If you're talking about rigging the boat everytime you use it, relax, it gets easier/faster with every rigging.....especially if you have crew to help and you have learned the boat's rigging nuances. If you treat the procedure as part of the joy of sailing and an opportunity to check out the condition of the rigging, you'll find this part quite enjoyable.

If you're talking dry-sailing(leaving it rigged and on the trailer at a marina) that's an option as well (well, for a fee of course). The option of just hooking up to the trailer and launching the boat has it's obvious advantages. Personally, I enjoy messing about the rigging.

Congrats on the boat....enjoy!

Bob
