Summer 2009 Around Long Island

I know this is a BIG question but... I am looking for the next place to keep our boat next summer. We have been at a yacht club, various moorings, and a slip. Here are our parameters:

North shore of LIS, East of New Rochelle and west of Old Saybrook.

We are hoping to find a small place and prefer a mooring with decent access to the boat via our dingy or a launch. We're gypsies so joining a YC with a initiation fee is a no go for us. I know that with the economy tanking and the high price of fuel, some town facilities have openings that in previous years were unavailable except to legacy wait listers.

Thoughts? Experiences of where to call? Any places where one can drop one's own mooring?
