I have three or so of his books. His adventures and clear writing style had a lot to teach us, as did his very well argued reasons for going from a SC 50 to a Pretorian 35 (albeit the most ground-tackle-laden 35 I'm aware of). His "How to Sail Around the World" is, next to Beth Leonard's opus, "The Voyager's Handbook", about the best of its type: Leonard's book has more logic and data and thinking, but Roth's has more style and fun. Certainly, it had a lot of verve for a guy who wrote it as a very active sailor in his late 70s.
Fair winds.
