My son has also taken to reading...finally. Last night, he shocked us by saying "I am going to bed early to read my new comic books." I can tell what he is reading because he has started to use "five dollar words" correctly. It is pretty amusing to hear a seven-year-old say things like "What a preposterous notion!"

Unsurprisingly, we are giving him karate lessons for when some kid wants to fight him for speaking like that.

Val...my mother makes a terrible tasting "emapadao" it's the Portuguese version of the English sheppards pie, except the Portuguese is actually eatable and tastes good..SEE HERE

Anyway..we call it (unbeknownst to my mother), "the disgusting lard bucket"..

So one day, we went to dinner in my mother's house...as we arrived, Fred turns to my mother and says:

"are you feeding us the "the disgusting lard bucket"??? My father told mummy: I hope she's not cooking the "the disgusting lard bucket"....."

When I was on a European tour with the Providence Mandolin Orchestra, I made a point of not asking for translations of the menus. I figured if I didn't like something I ordered, it was my own fault for not knowing the language. I did learn to order bear in the native tongue, even to the point of specifying dark beer.

So what country were you in that had BEAR on the menu?

When I was in Italy my favorite drink when on the town was a Cafe Corretto con Vecchia Romagna. Basically an espresso with a shot of premium brandy.

Giu, please start a new thread called: "I'm a disgusting lard bucket." I will gladly learn Portugese, contribute countless inflammatory musings, fly anywhere in the world for the meetings, and kiss your ring to be a part of that. It just really resonates with me.
