Boat shows
My wife and I are talking about going to Strickly Sail- Chicago ;Jan 30 - Feb 2; Navy Pier. Has anyone gone to this? Where is a good place to stay? Is it worth going to? Any hints to this subject will be taken with confidence. TNX! Dave.

I''m in Milwaukee and I always enjoy going to this show. I highly recommend it. See the following web site for hotels :
http://www.chicago.il.org/HOTELS_MICHIGANAVE.HTM#14
I think we have stayed at a different hotel each time. There are many good ones, and I look for a good deal and something close to Michigan Ave for my wife. There are free shuttles that run to the show, so it is easy to get around.
Last year I bought a GPS, handheld VHF, a jacket and a few other things at big discounts. Many good boats to drool over.

Boat shows
I''ve gone to the Chicago Sailboat show for the past three or four years, and enjoy it very much. I go with my wife and she likes it because she can go to museums, shopping, or any number of other spots in downtown Chicago. I especially like the forums held there, and have found them varied, informative, and very interesting. It is easily the best sailboat show in the midwest, and certainly one of the best in the country. If you decide to go let me know and we can discuss sailing for twenty minutes or so over a cup of coffee.
Can''t help you with hotels because we always stay with my brother who lives in southwestern Michigan.
Enjoy the show.

I''ll be at Chicago. I''ve never been to a sailboat only show before. Of course, this is the first sailboat I''ve owned. I live east of Cleveland.
Waltzing Matilda, do you live near Cleveland? I remember a sailboat with that name around these parts some years ago. I owned a powerboat at the time.

I have never been to that boat show, but I did live in Chicago and can provide you with a couple of places to stay. There is a bed & breakfast organization that has worked very well for me a couple of times (www.bnbchicago.com). I stayed at Maud Travels though them for about $120 per night. A short walk to the L and quick train ride to the Loop. Great neighborhood too. Also, There is a hotel chain, Club Quarters, that has two buildings in the Chicago loop. I have stayed at the one in New York City and one in Boston and both have been excellent and inexpensive (about $125 per night).

This is a good show to attend, as there are the obligatory Benehuntalinas (they suck) plus the occasional Tartan, C&C, Pacific Seacraft, Sabre, Island Packet, Gozzard, Moody, Hylas brands as well. In addition, there are quite a few informative seminars as well as a number of marine suppliers. If you get lucky, you could run into to me. If you let me know in advance I''ll get you free tickets.

Gee....you can''t help yourself denr can you....That is the sign of a weak person. The question was about boat shows, but you just have to add your insecure, small brained, crappy comments. NO boat "suck", I don''t think one has ever been made that I would say that about. There are pluses and minuses to all boats. For instance, Island Packets are great boats , but I''m not sure I would want one to sail the light winds of summer in the Chesapeake. The only thing that sucks are people that make ridiculous comments about things that don''t appeal to them. You are small minded and I''ll bet small in so many other ways. Lose the attitude, everyone is SO sick of it.

Boat shows
Heruka,
I live in Warren and keep my Cape Dory 26 at Battery Park Marina in Sandusky. I''ve only had the boat since the end of last season, and though I call her "Waltzing Matilda" the name is not lettered on her stern yet. I hope to do that over the winter while she is on the hard. Wonder where you live. I teach school on the far southeast side of Cleveland near Harvard and East 183rd. Let me know and maybe we can get together for a beer or a cup of coffee.

You’re quick to analyze my condition, where did you earn your degree in psychiatry? Can I not have an opinion on boats? Are you affiliated with the Taliban and want to tell people what they can and cannot do? Is it your time of the month? Who died and made you the Sailnet police? You must be very insecure, just an observation not a diagnosis!
