Jim,
I don't envy you that trip up the Jersey coast -- makes our trip sound tame. One thing that has really changed our late-season sailing comfort-level is the cabin heater. On the colder legs, we left it running while underway and it sure was nice to go below and warm up from time to time!

Thanks. True enough, and it never hurts to be reminded, either.

TD, Yes those Folkboats are impressive little boats -- very fast for their size. My buddy was single-handing her that weekend -- plus his tiller-pilot quit on him. He always seems to manage just fine, in any event. But the tall dodger is due to one of her notorious vices -- the Folkboat is a tremendously WET vessel. My buddy does what he can to stay dry -- witness the weather clothes and the extra tall dodger!

Thanks George. We'll be winding down now. Some hardier folks press on through the entire winter -- but we don't mind taking a little break. The boat will get winterized and covered, but stay in the water so she'll be ready for a quick escape come spring.
All,
I may try to find some additional info on
Elf, a really impressive boat. The owner was there and invited us aboard, so we got a quick belowdecks tour too (unfortunately my camera batteries died).
In the meanwhile, take a closer look at the photo which shows the bow in profile. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of the hollow section in the bow of
Giulietta. Maybe those old coots knew a thing or two!?
