I have..

I have the exact opposite take! I will buy MORE from SN this year because I feel they were bullied by Tartan, and their lawyers, and had no choice! I feel sorry for the guys that had to make this tough financial decision.

Perhaps you were not around when Sailnet failed the first time and the forums future was in peril. If we the users of this board do not continue to buy from SN they WILL fail again and we will LOSE this valuable forum due to stupid, nonsensical decisions of who not to buy from and for what stupid reason..

I think anyone with half a brain can see that Sailnet is NOT the problem here and that the big bullies that are Mr. Ross and his cohorts are the bullies.

If the the 6'2" playground bully beat up the 5' 1" 104 pound math nerd would you kick him when he was down for not fighting hard enough??

Some folks have a twisted sense of who is to blame for this...

Please buy from sailnet and keep these forums alive!!!!!!!!!!!

Speaking for Bob . . . . . . .

I'm grateful for the vast amount of knowledge I've acquired at Sailnet. I've met a whole bunch of friends with like interests and will have a blast in Chicago soon. Sure, the Tartan thing is unfortunate but that's no reason for Bob to bail out. I feel like I've been ripping off Sailnet because I haven't spent one cent . . . . . . . yet. I will start shopping here . . . and with their sponsers. I need a new set of sails and in Februrary, if I'm still employed, I'll be getting into that too.

I'm happy here.

Traveler, are you channeling DonQuixote?

BTW, If Sailnet has any of the reconditioned Garmin streetpilots left. They are an outstanding deal.

T37 (I take it you own one?),
Why is it Sailnet's fault that the company that made your boat has harassed them into deleting a thread (or two) under threat of lawsuit(s) or whatever? Shouldn't you be pizzed at Tartan and not Sailnet for protecting their assets? Why should Sailnet stick it's neck out to defend freedom of speech against this conglomerate? If they did try to play hardball would you also be happy when they had to close down this forum? Trying to punish Sailnet for the strong armed tactics of Tartan is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.
As I see it your real problem with this situation must be that your T37 is still under 'warranty' and isn't that the real issue? My T27 hasn't been under warranty for some time so I could give a ratsass. If I had the money I would not buy a new(er) Tartan but I like my old 1967 T27 anyway. There are lots of other boats to choose from.
I will continue to shop around for my purchases and if sailnet has a good price on something I will buy it right here. Sailnet provides a great service which you already have acknowledged.

Well said Maine Sail.. I wasn't around when Sailnet was having issues previously, but wouldn't want to see the forums at risk in the future, and have bought from Sailnet to show my support for them. I just wish their store was more user-friendly.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

So, they have loss $1,300 in your business. Let's say the Sailnet operates at a 20% after tax margin (probably less). So they are out $260 profit. What do you think it would cost them to defend a lawsuit? I bet you got them rethinking this whole issue. I will support Sailnet.

Also, if Travler37 never bought from Sailnet in the past, it really isn't a loss for them, is it?? He wasn't an existing customer moving to a different vendor over the issue, so it really isn't a big deal.

Sailnet has pretty good customer service and pretty good prices on many things, so I'll support them and hope that they keep this forum up and running as a result.

If you feel that strongly about the issue, open your wallet, your bank account and the 2nd & 3rd mortgage on your house and fork it over to Sailnet for legal fees. I'm sure deep down they would like to fight this thing, so man up and pay up.

I gotta ask a question here. Why is it OK for Sailnet to "protect their assets" by caving into a request/threat from Tartan, but not OK for the OP to protect his assets by spending them with other companies that are more to his way of thinking? I have to agree in part with the OP. I have a hard time continuing to pump money into an enterprise that so easily rolls over and plays dead anytime another company makes any kind of threat. Yes Tartan was bullying Sailnet into yanking that thread. And yes, Sailnet caved at the first hint of a law suit despite the fact they had (as far as I know) not been served any papers and were in the right to leave the posts as they were. Near as I can tell they deserve about aas much support for their valor as the French do for defending against Germany invasions. (And the French at least made a show of having a defense!)

Yes, but that is $260 from one customer. How many subscribers does Sailnet have? No way all think the way he does, but if even a fraction agree it could represent significant $$$'s in total.
