BTW Heavy lifts are shackled to the lifting slings. Before being lifted... no fancy hitches or knots. This is for safety reasons that I whole heartly agree with. And heavy 'I' beams are either chained on deck, shored or tack welded down. You don't want your cargo sliding about and crushing your crew. So no fancy knots or hitches there also...
We may use choker slings for some lifts, but the eye of the sling is shackled to the standing part of the sling. Yes shackled... Safety first at all times.

The only not i can think of is by using a sheet shank and cutting the top loop then you will get 99 % of the rope back apart from that i have no idea

If you do something right, no one will be sure you've done anything at all.

Thanks, knothead. 399 is kind of close. I'll have to try that one, to see how it compares.

Knotty,
Don't post page 898, "Knots suitable for use on Bedposts". Jim's on a budget and you wouldn't want to be complicit in bankrupting him! (g)
