Shouldn't be too hard to fix.
That sounds like a very reasonable action. But again, what is it exactly we are trying to fix? Or more accurately, why are we trying to fix it? What is it that bothers people?

The reason I would want it fixed is to eliminate the threads being revived in which someone is looking for specific help or crew or advice on a boat he's looking to buy. Usually the advice given by the offender is of little value to the OP even if it were a current thread. This causes the usual suspects to think 'not only is this guy a bonehead that can't read a date, he has no idea what he's talking about'. The flamethrowers get the pilot lights lit and it's on.

They'd have to actually hire a programmer to do that bit of change, and write up a set of rules, how old, what topic thread etc..

Not gonna happen, it would never satisfy most users so why bother?

I really don't see what all the hubbub is about. It's not hard to not care about a post or even entire threads. If it doesn't look interesting, move on. No more rules required.

I can understand not wanting to hire a programmer for this. In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter.

As far as the rules for when the pop up happens, how about any thread with the last post more than 6 months old? That should pretty well cover it. If you want to revive an old thread to tell us how the circumnavigation went, then revive at will.
