I did too.

Read a fair bit of Newby back in the 70's. 'TLGR' was particularly good but his other stuff was also very good, if somewhat left of centre travel writing is your thing. 'Short Walk in the Hindu Kush' , 'Slowly Down the Ganges' and 'The Big Red Train Ride' were my personal favourites.

I picked up a second hand copy of 'On the Shores of the Meditteranean' late last year but I havn't read it yet.
