BFS ? Now this is really BFS.

Irving Johnson and his wife Electra were two of the great pioneers of cruising under sail. This man was a true marvel and a real hero of my youth. I devoured his books and although it is many years since I saw them last his films were truely gobsmacking.

Watch this. Mystic Seaport have now put it online and SA have posted the link.

Around Cape Horn

If this does not impress you, nothing ever will.

(hopefully I'm not repeating something already posted. apologies if I am.)

Great video-- I had not seen it before.

Did Johnson make other films about his sailing? (Perhaps of later voyages with his wife?)

It's pretty impressive that he kept the camera operational after dousing it so many times.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I love the dog that bites the sailors to motivate them.

Johnson did make other films but whether they are available anywhere I do not know.

Check out Mystic Seaport for DVDs on at least other topics and people.

Allthumbs....I especially love the part where the dog tries to get attention from Johnson himself....to throw a stick or something.....

Awesome, Reminds me of my Grand PA. I like how he talks about making everything them self.

All of those guys were tough......Nuff said!

I really like how he wished for a "Good" storm and heavy weather. Man, He must be a good guy.
