identifying a small sailboat

I was given a small, 18' sailboat. I was told it was a "northsea" boat, but it has no ID on it. the hull is blue and there is a "J" on the sail and a 3 digit number, the mast has an Essex england manufacturer name. there is a small storage area in the bow and it has an alluminum center board. any ideas on who the manufacturer was would be much appreciated.
