There is a classic movie, black and white and I think from 1939, of an afternoon at the Manasquan NJ inlet. The fishing fleet was caught outside when a storm formed. The movie was made from the rock jetty as they tried to get back in through the inlet. It had shots of large fishing boats skewed sideways to the waves, even a Coast Guard boat ended up on the rocks. Then there is a set up shot of an open decked fishing boat with a single guy in it setting up to try running the inlet. The audience gasps knowing a tragedy is coming. But his guy rides through it without getting a drop of water in the boat looking like just another Sunday afternoon outing!

I saw this movie MANY years ago, have no idea where it can be found today.

Sorry, guys, it is a slow loading page (tons of pics of this episode).. but it is worthwhile once you get through.

I thought this had been posted before, but perhaps it was on another site. Have to wonder what this guy was thinking!

I've looked at that sequence before, but forgot just how amazing that is.

The boat submerging on the face of the wave is rather impressive.

Does anyone know the whole story there? Was it just the captain who was saved by the surfers?

I better post this link before Dawg reprimands me!

Here's a story about the Golden Gate surf-a-thon.

Google is my friend.

I guess that you don't really want to sail in between surfers. The surfers are generally only where waves are as far as I can tell.
