Superstition for changing your boats name?

I'm curious about what everyones opinion is on this subject? I've heard many different superstitions and how to get around them growing up and would like to hear what you have heard.

For example, I always heard growing up that it's extremely bad luck to change the name of a boat unless you follow the procedure which is..If powerboat, tap the bow to shore 3 times. If sailboat, the boat must be sailed backwards three times it's length (Go figure...)

I never change a boats' name. Doing so requires satisfying Neptune to the tune of millions of brain cells.

No it is definitely ok if you tie a virgin mermaid to the bow and give her lots of champagne.

I used John Vigor's denaming ceremony with a liberal dose of Rum afterwards then the traditional renaming ceremony. I used this ritual on both of my boats and have had no lingering bad luck.

Hey,

Sorry, but I am not superstitious. I have owned three boats and changed the name on all of them. I just scraped the old name off and stuck the new name one. Nothing bad has happened.
