Earthquakes in the Caribbean

Anyone else monitor the USGS Earthquake Hazards site?

There have been a "storm" of minor earthquakes, mostly around Puerto Rico, in the last week. I count 47 since Monday, ranging in size from magnitude 1.3 to 4.8. with bigger quakes in Mona Passage and off Central America.

Wonder if Mother Earth is building up to a bigger event

You can set up an email alert to notify you of quakes in a designated area, within a specified range of magnitude. Interesting stuff!

The only one I recall historically of being really severe is the one that destroyed Port Royal, Jamaica 300 years ago, although I know Cuba gets hit now and then.

It makes sense, given the movement of the Caribbean Plate.

four mini quakes since 4pm eastern...and one in New Jersey!!

Well, who would notice that one!!!

If you compare to the activity in California over the same time period, it makes PR look like a sesimic HOT ZONE...

Wonder if we'll see some activity out of Montserrat?
