Documentation Renewal

I think I have been scammed. I received an official looking letter from Specialized Yacht Services, Babylon, NY offering to renew my Documentation for a $75 service fee. Unless things have changed from our last boat, the CG sends a notice of renewal which is sent back and the renewal occurs for no charge. Am I wrong?

You are correct. Sign the form from the USGC, make any address corrections, mail it back to them and they mail you the new documentation certificate, good for another year. There is no charge.

You might want to pass that solicitation on to the Better Business Bureau.

RIP OFF.....

If anything your state may request an annual registration fee, but not the USCG.

Even if you don't get the renewal form in the mail, you can download it from the USCG website. Fill it out and FAX it in....

BTW, if you miss the deadline for renewal, the USCG only charges $5.00 for renewing up to 30 days after the deadline.

Specialized Yacht Services is a ripoff.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
